| Santiago | Looking for a Great Restaurant with a Great View of the City Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 07:25 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm going to be in Santiago with a group of friends in a couple of weeks for 1 day. We are looking for some suggestions on Good Restaurants in Santiago that have a great View of the City and aren't extremely expensive. If there aren't any than a Restaurants with a nice atmosphere! The food should be traditional Chilean. Thanks, Michael |

Most restaurants which serve traditional Chilean food are either out in the country or huge places with lots of people celebrating birthdays. Two upmarket ones are El Apero in the Borederío complex of restaurants in Vitacura or downtown the Vichuquen restaurant in the Hotel Galerías. Those will run you about US$45 each with wine. Another option is Doña Tina in Lo Barnechea, which is a suburb of Santiago toward the mountains. She has a couple of other locations but this is the best one. All the dishes are traditional. Try 'plateada con puré picante'.
To combine the view and the food, you could go up Cerro San Cristobal on the funicular from Pio Nono in Bellavista to see the view, then take a bubble car to the other end of the park. By the Pedro de Valdivia entrance to the park is Divertimento. It isn't exclusively Chilean dishes but the ones they have are very good. www.divertimento.cl

I would also recommend a Chilean "picada" (cheap and cheerful Chilean place) in Bellavista called Galindo. It is on the corner of Constitucion and Dardignac in Bellavista, Providencia. It is really popular with locals and foreginers.
The only place I know of with a view of the city is the Camino Real / Enoteca on Cerro Can Cristobal. Address: PARQUE METROPOLITANO - SECTOR TUPAHUE Telephone: (56-2) 2321758 www.eventoscaminoreal.cl I am not sure if the restaurant is open to anyone or only events so you would need to check. Another group of restaurants that serve Chilean food but is more a drinking establishment than a pure restaurant is Liguria. There are three restaurants and the details are on my Santiago page. Cheers, Rhianon

The restaurant with the best view in undeniably El Camino Real on the Cerro San Cristobál. The food is good and wine list one of the best in the city. If it is a clear day the views are tremendous both over the city and towards the Andes.
You need a reservation 232-1758.

best view, for sure, would be ''El giratorio'' right across from Los Leones metro station...the one at the top of the San Cristobal hill (Camino real) good view but doesn't have excellent food (or a great service)
