Ushuaia Booking Activities in Ushuaia
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 06:18 PM UTC
Hi there...I'm heading to Ushuaia in January 2009 and wanted to find out if anyone has some info on whether activities/day trips should be booked in advance, or can be done easily when we arrive? Since we're headed there in peak season, do things such as beagle channel cruises, walks on the martial glacier, or day trips to the national park ever sell out or are difficult to arrange? Is anyone aware of whether these activities are very costly? Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

The main problem is that you are heading there during the peak season for cruises. They use to capture most of the tours so it would be adecuate for you to arrange previously the tours you want to do. You can go any time to the National Park by bus and do the different trekkins and walks the place offers, just go to the Tourist Office and get the booklet; and you will be able to find a ticket for the catamaran which takes you to the lighthouse on the Beagle Channel and the small rocks with penguins, cormorans and other animals. But for those whole day tours, like the trekkin plus canoing, or the 4x4 running by the Fagnano lake, the canoing along the Beagle plus the visit to Gable Island, and others, it will be better to have a reservation. Whole day tours (including a barbacue or the like, must cost about 90 dollars, half day tours about 30-40 dollars.
Visit Canal Fun tours agency, the best in Ushuaia : www.canalfun.com. They are excellent people, I īve enjoyed a lot my tours with them.

Thanks again for all the info! Our travel agent here in Canada was trying to sell us a package with the three activities I mentioned for $700 US each. Obviously, we fell off our chairs, and figured that we should be able to book these when we arrive for significantly less!!!

I did the booking right through Canal Fun, because I learned that my travel agent used to charged me more than what I could understand as logical. But comming from another country is safer to do that.
You will see that there are about 3-4 cruises at the same time, and that causes lack of seats in most tours in Ushuaia. Take a warm jacket, and gloves in case you will go canoing. And trekking shoes, because the walks along the Park trails are done with mudd. Have fun.
