San Francisco Need info on service apartment
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 01:26 PM UTC
Hi friends,
Me & my family are planning to go to SF on May 7-10th.
There are 10 of us (7 adults, 1 child & 2 babies) travelling to SF.
In this condition it's better for us to stay in a service apartment, rather than in a hotel. I've browse some website looking for a service apartment but haven't found one until now. With this email, I really really really need your help about infos on finding service apartment (has 3-4 rooms, aircon & max. $200-300 per day)in SF, especially in a strategic street near malls/fave objects. I'll be staying for 3 days & 2 nights. If you have any info, website or recommendation on the service apartment that I'm looking for....please let me know ASAP.
Looking forward to hear news from all of you or you can email me also at shas_tri@yahoo.com. God bless you all.....

Not sure what you mean by a "service apartment" - I am assuming it's a place with a kitchen and additional accomodations.

Two hotel chains have little "apartment-like" accomodations:

Marriott - try the Residence Inn brand: http://www.marriott.com/residence-inn/travel.mi

The first two listed for SF are not in a central location, but it's a short commute and you can take the hotel shuttle to public transportation.

The other is Hilton - two brands, Embassy Suites and Hampton Suites
There's an Embassy Suites in Burlingame - not right in the city but accessible via shuttle and transportation. If you stay here ask for a bay view room and the child (and the adults!) can watch the planes cross the bay and land at a good distance. Good breakfast included.

There's also a Hampton Inn in Burlingame, same deal with the distance.

The other Marriott's, Embassy Suites, and Hamptons are not convenient - the Burlingame location is close to the airport, so the hotel will shuttle you to the airport (or a place where you can catch public transportation) and go to the city.

With children, it would be much better to go up in price a bit and rent two rooms, because, specially with the babies, you will need a place nearby to give the babies (and adults) a little break during the day, and you don't want to be running back to Burlingame.

Many other hotels will have a fridge and a microwave - you can always get some disposable utensils.

There are a couple of "Safeway" stores in San Francisco - one is to the right at the end of Fulton by the ocean, right off Golden Gate Park, the other one is on Webster. You can search the Safeway site for a market,http://shop.safeway.com/superstore/default.asp?page=corphome use Zip Code 94115 on the upper left box and you will get a list of San Francisco stores.

You can also look for a Walgreen's - this is a drug store that also sells some groceries: http://www.walgreens.com/storelocator/find.jsp - same, enter 94115.

So, if you get two rooms in the city, and take a little trip to Safeway and/or Walgreen's you will find supplies. You can probably find a cooler at Walgreen's and store any perishables there if the rooms don't have a fridge.

If you think the idea of staying in Sf makes sense, just repost and you should get many other suggestions.

So, a little trip to Safeway

If you are going to be in San Francisco for only a few days, you MUST stay in the city. Commuting to and from the city at any time of any day can be a miserable experience, terrible traffic.

The beat place to stay is in the Marina district, specifically Lombard Street, which is motel row. It's in a great part of S.F. One block from Lombard is Chestnut Street, which is a Tourist-free reallly nice shopping street. The Marina Safeway is a wonderful supermarket.

Check out the websites for the Cow Hollow Inn and Suites and probably better (cheaper) would be the Alpha Suites.

It might be a good idea to split you group in to 2 groups; 10 is a lot a people, more like a gang.

I don't know how you're planning to get around, but parking in S.F., particularly on weekdays is impossible; the restrictions and lack of spaces can drive anyone mad. Taxis are the most expensive in the U.S.

NO ONE has air conditioning in S.F. You won't need it guaranteed.
