Hey
am planning to go to Caracas for research in October 2008 Would be very grateful if you can advice me on the best (cheapest) traveling possibilities from Europe; and also - could anyone suggest any website/s where rooms in a shared flat in the city can be found? am quite lost with my still poor Spanish... hi there,
As for cheap accommodation or shared flat, I dont have much information, dont even know if there is a website, let me know if you find one :-D. You may want to know that accommodation in Caracas is very expensive and the offer is low, what makes it even more expensive, but if you want to stay at a nice hotel, I would recommend you this one: http://www.hotelavila.com.ve/ and I think they have good rates. To travel from Europe: I used to live in Germany and fly Lufthansa, of course, is an expensive but reliable possibility. What you may want to check is a direct flight to Margarita Island (Porlamar), there are many offers from Europe at a good price, and you can also spend some days there. Then once being at Margarita, you can buy a local ticket to Caracas, which once you exchange from Euros to BsF, will be very cheap for you. Spanish is important in Venezuela, Im afraid to tell you that people here dont speak much english, in that case, try to approach always young guys/girls, then the chance to find an english speaker is higher. Hope this helps, Ana

Hi there,
I have been working with tourists from Europe for over 10 years and when they're looking for an affordable hosting I always suggest the ATENEO DE SANTA MONICA, which is a very cheap, clean and safe backpackers hostel located in the southern part of the cit, but only 10min by taxi from the city center. Also I recommend Hotel Beethoven which is located in Colinas de Bello Monte, only a 10min walk from the subway station Plaza Venezuela. If you need further help please don't hesitate to post new questions. C-

Hi,
My name is Julio Jimenez. I am renting two rooms at home at a very economical price. Since you are coming to Venezuela and have heard it might be a dangerous city, I would have no problem registering in the embassy that Ill probably be receiving you. In case you decide to stay somewhere else, I would have no problem serving as a guide. My telephone number at work is 58 212 205 56 33. My cel is 0416 718 64 34. I will gladly send you photos of the apartment and provide any reference youi might need. Best regards, Julio Jimenez
