I am having difficulties finding out the best way to travel from Marmaris, Turkey to Limassol, Cyprus or anywhere in Cyprus. I am not sure if their is any passenger ship or ferry that will take us at a reasonable lenght of time. If there is none, would you give me suggestions.

Travel between Turkey and Turkish-occupied Northern Cyprus, and thence to "Greek" Cyprus, is problematic. All kinds of diplomatic and political problems. You're best advised to research the foreign ministries of your home country, Republic of Cyprus ("Greek"), Turkey, and the rump state of the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus." There may not be such a ferry.

Atlas Jet and Kibris Airways fly from Izmir, unsure if they also go from Dalaman, which would be nearer.

There is a daily ferry service from Tasucu in Turkey to Gime, Northern Cyprus and a summer hudrofoil to the same place from Alanya.

http://ferries-turkey.com/cyprus/cyprus-en.html will give you some information. The ferry company's website (www.fergun.net) is only in Turkish.

You will then have to sort out onward travel into southern Cyprus, by bus or taxi.

Note that as a non-Eu citizen, you cannot enter the island via either Ercan Airport ot Kyrenia harbour and then proceed to leave it via Laranca airport. If you are a Canadian citizen they may let you visit the south on a day trip, but don't count on it.

I did almost the exact same thing last summer. It is really no problem anymore. I took the Ferry from Alanya to Northern Cyprus (4 to 5 hours). In the summer the ferry makes the trip twice a week.

Once you arrive at the port in Girne, there is a very old bus that will take you to the central bus terminal in Lefkosia (Turkish side of Nicosia). From there you will need to take a taxi to the UN Green line border to cross over into the Greek side. You should have no more problems at the border crossing than any other entrance into an EU country.

Busses are cheap in the Greek side Cyprus, but for some reason they stop running in the late afternoon (around 4pm). So, you may need to taxi, or plan on spending your first night in Nicosia, depending on the ferry schedule. (Plan on a few hours from the ferry arrival to reaching Nicosia.)

Alternatively, you can stay in Lafkosia for far less money, and cross the border in the morning.

I flew out of Cyprus on Aegean Air from Larnaca. At passport control, they stopped me when they realized that I had technically made an "illegal entry". It is not an issue anymore, and I was allowed to depart from Cyprus with no problem at all.
