Munich Oktoberfest; Opening Weekend; flight to Greece from Munchen
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 08:35 PM UTC
Hello everyone! A group of 7 of us are planning to attend Oktoberfest for the weekend and then fly to Greece for the rest of the week. What I looking for is any advice, tips, and information from anyone who has attended. Are there group rates we would be able to get, etc. . . . Thanks for any and every bit of help you may be able to provide. We would be flying out of New Jersey.

There is no entry fee at the Oktoberfest, so no need to think about group rates.

I would just try to book accommodation right now, as this will become more difficult by the day.

> to attend Oktoberfest for the weekend
... during the week would be better. Weekends are damn crowded.

The first thing you have to sort out is accommodation. Here you should also consider places around Munich.

You won,t get a price reduction on anything, in fact prices go up dramatically when Oktoberfest is on especially for Hotels in Munich. Perhaps consider staying in another Bavarian town where it would be cheaper.

Thank you all for your advice. I am going to book the Oktoberfest package through the official website. They have fairly reasonable deals, plus we're gonna camp instead of stay in a hotel. Should be fun and exciting. How about any tips about getting to Greece? Any suggestions as to where I should go. I know this is for another forum, but since it's part of my trip I thought I should ask. Or if anyone has a better suggestion than Greece during September that would be great as well.

E.g. from Munich, Nuremberg or Salzburg (the next close airports)

September is also a good time for Bavaria. There is not just the Oktoberfest. E.g.

I have already been to Bavaria, our original plan was to visit Greece, and since Oktoberfest was during the same time as our trip to Greece we decided we should go for the weekend. I have some more questions as well, do you have to have a reservation to attend the tens during Oktoberfest, does it depend on the small or larger tents? Are there any campgrounds near Oktoberfest? and also if anyone has suggestions or tips in general.

No.

> Are there any campgrounds near Oktoberfest?
Near is always relative. But there area campgrounds you can reach by public transport 24 hours.
