| Florence | Accomodations in Florence Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 02:03 PM UTC
I'll be traveling to Florence in August ( I know, si will the rest of the world). I'm looking for a centrally located hotel that won't break the bank or be gross. Any suggestions?

Hi,
We arrived by train from Rome and stayed at this hotel, just a few minutes walking distance from the station and centrally located with easy walking access to all the sights. The hotel (pensione) is located on Piazza San Giovanni (steps from the Cathedrale) which has rooms with or without private facilities. I had a double with private facilities which I shared with my mother and my girlfriend had a double with a shared bathroom. But her room had a beautiful view of the Duomo!! Check out their website, they advertise specials in the summer. http://www.hotelsangiovanni.com/ Alternatively, you can check out this website for some really great rates and information on where to stay. http://en.venere.com/hotels_florence Have a great trip Janet

We've gone to Florence on two different trips. Here are two places that we stayed that we really enjoyed, especially the locations:
1. Hotel Della Signoria between Signoria Piazza and Ponte Vecchio 50123 Firenze Via Delle Terme, 1 (055/214530-296598) 2. Plaza Hotel Lucchesi located overlooking the Arno River about 2 blocks from Uffizi Museum. Hope you love Florence as much as we did. Best Wishes, Dee [deecat]

Last year we had got a good deal for the hotel Fenice Palace, but this was in March. August will be more expensive, I'm sure. Still you may want to check:
http://www.hotelfenicepalaceflorence.com/index.php The location is excellent, just a few meters from the cathedral.

I would be quite picky with the hotel. We stayed at a supposedly four star from the bestwestern site, and it was the worse place I've stayed on vacation.
Don't leave Florence without visiting the Officina Profumo Santa Maria Novella ...http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmacia_di_Santa_Maria_Novella I need to write a tip. It caught our attention because the book we had said Queen Elizabeth shops there. WARNING: the products are habit forming. I visit their branches in all major cities and keep a bag just to check in with the products. Do note that summer hours are limited. Here's another link from the Smithsonian, but still no direct link. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/heaven-scent.html I used to be able to pull up their original site, with an "it" ending for Italy, but apparently their products have become so popular that you only pull up resellers in Google. Well, someone bought the original link ... I found it here in this very good writeup: http://www.thetravelzine.com/it_w2005_6.htm Did not realize it used to be a church ... I don't usually recommend something so adamantly ... you'll love it - that is, if you can find it open.

Veer is a reliable site, because the guest reviews are honest (be wary of anywhere without, or with very few).
I have stayed twice at the Hotel Delle Camelie, which is under 10 minutes walk from SM Novella and about 15 max to the Duomo. I enjoyed it, and it was very reasonably-priced for Florence. http://en.venere.com/hotels_florence/san_lorenzo/h

Actually, 'venere' is a very reliable site..........I have no idea what 'veer' is, apart from an invention of my sticky keyboard and inability to proofread before I post! :-)

several years ago we stayed at the Hotel de Ville, great location, small but clean rooms, nice breakfast. Check recent reviews of course and Venere is superb for this.

Oh well, despite all the great replies, I'll add my two cents worth.
We stayed at Hotel Collodi in late February this year, and thought it was a bargain at 62 euros. I just checked and it seems to be only 84 euros in August...still a good deal! Here's my review, photos and hotel website link: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/67a55/24e41/3/ Cristina

Need any more? I'm going to stay at Hotel Sampaoli in June. I can't review it yet, but everything I've read on a variety of sites makes it look fantastic.
http://www.hotelsampaoli.it/index_ing.htm I've also stayed at the Hotel Ritz on the Arno. . .if you can get a room away from street noise, it's a fantastic option but more expensive and slightly less central. http://www.florenceitaly.net/ritz/uk/default.htm

Hi.. You might look into the Hotel Axial. Great location right near the Duomo. It was highly recommended to us and is reasonably priced. Good luck...
PS.. there is a Gelato shop right around the corner. : )
