Taxi driver hire and excursions Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
Hi there,
My husband and I are thinking of staying at the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort in Bel Ombre next year and I was wondering if anyone knows of any reliable taxi drivers that we could hire for excursions around the island.
I would prefer to do half day trips rather than full day ones if possible as I have a back problem and find full day trips hard going.
Is it possible to get to visit the Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses from here as a half day trip?
Could we also get to visit Ile Aux Cerfs for a couple of hours on another half day tour?
Would it be possible to visit Chamarel Falls and the Coloured Earth by taxi without having to walk too far?
Any information would be really helpful.
Thanks Di

Roughly guessed it is about 50km to Pamplemousses one way. (not so fast roads around Bel Ombre; windy). So it might take a while. Entrance is free to the gardens so it does not matter for how long you will stay and walk around there. Even it you just walk a bit to the amazon lillys I would say it is worth it.
It is about the same way to Ile aus cerfs. However you (normally taxi driver will take care of it) will have to organize a boat there and back so I think it would be a long half day....But you can rest on the beach on the island. For Chamael Falls you will not have to walk far. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes. Coloured Earth is not a very big area either so I guess it should be possible.

We used www.taximauritius.com when we were in Mauritius, they were excellent.
We set it all up by email, airport transfer and excursions, service first class. You can pay in euro, rupees or even in sterling, whatever suits you best. Just agree the price by email and keep a print off to take with you. We always tipped the driver in rupees.
Cheers,
Camimi

I agree with Taxis Mauritius - www.taxismauritius.com - very professional and they communicate quickly via email. One company I would avoid is Summertimes - they too are professional but give the same service as Mauritius Taxis for about 4 times the price.
You can easily do half day trips and with a private taxi you set the schedule.
Have a great holiday.
