Athens Aaccommodation Athens, Santorini & Rhodes Late Sept, to Early October
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 01:15 AM UTC
We have arranged a stopover in Greece from 28th September to 6th October on our way home to Australia. Intention to see major Athens sights, fly to Santorini for 2 nights, then either fly or take ferry to Rhodes for 3 nights, then fly to Athens for 2 nights prior to catching flight home 4:15pm on 6th October.

We require good 3 star accommodation, clean room and bathroom, most likely need airconditioning as it may be hot, within walking distance of tourist attractions and transport (metro).

In Athens thought we might stay at the Hotel Attalos at 29 Athinas St. Has
anyone stayed at this hotel or can recommend a good hotel, do not mind staying in a small hotel. We attempted to book the Athos Hotel but Bookings.com said no rooms available.

In Santorini we would like a Greek style hotel in town or walking distance, with ocean view. Expect to pay extra for this but as we will be there 2 nights will be worth the extra money to have the view. Will be there 29th & 30th September, leaving for Rhodes morning of 1st.

How many hours is the ferry trip to Rhodes and does it go each day. Is it better to fly and have more time in Rhodes.

Rhodes accommodation, have made a posting in Rhodes Forum , but would appreciate any accommodation recommendations. Have considered City Centre Rhodes Town Hotel, Mediterranean Hotel. Have read in forum about Minos Pension & Roof Garden Lounge but have not followed up. Will be in Rhodes 3 nights returning to Athens by air on the 4th.

Will appreciate all replies.

Hi

We stayed at the Attalos and can highly recommend it. Officially it's 2 star though. The rooms aren't palatial but are clean and comfortable. Free internet access. Awesome terrace with bar facilities (fair prices). Excellent location. Ask for a room with a view of the Acropolis. On Santorini we stayed in Firostefani which is handy to the main town and has spectacular views of the caldera. You don't state your budget but maybe check out Blue Dolphin Apartments.

Hi Thank you for your reply and good to read you recommend the Attalos in Athens, a Greek friend who I used to work with recommended it.

As for Santorini I want a nice place as a treat for my wife, we are away for 52 days and a few extra dollars for the right place will be worth every cent.I will check out the Firostefani

Hi again Mike

Firostefani is the name of the village. We stayed at Grotto Villas, now named Cliffside. Unfortunately they have jacked up the rates to ridiculous levels!

I quickly learned that a 5 star hotel is more like a 3 star hotel here in the states. If you are a nonsmoker - make sure to ask for a nonsmoking room. We stayed at 4 different hotels during our trip a few years ago. All of the hotels had noisy air conditioning units and powerless hair dryers.

In Santorini, we stayed at the Majestic in Fira. What was nice about that, was it wasn't right in the busy area of town but still in walking distance. We had a view of the Caldera from our room and I really enjoyed that while getting ready in the morning.

Because my boyfriend had a business conference to attend in Glyfada, we stayed at a hotel there instead of Athens. Actually, Glyfada is at the beach and a very nice city. The shopping there is like being on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I took the metro from Glyfada into Athens and it was very easy and convenient.

Hope the little info I provided helps. Hope you have a great trip!

Hi Mike,
If Atalos is booked, try a small hotel called Phaedra in Plaka. In Santorini I recommend the Armonia hotel. You can find the info about hotels in Santorini on our Euromeet2007 site, which still has the postings for some hotels we recommended for last year's meeting. I will look and see if I can find the Phaedra, but try googling it. I do not recommend the Adams Hotel so avoid that one.

SORRY! The name of the hotel in Santorini is AROMA HOTEL! My mistake! I was thinking of the hotel that is just across the street from me here in Vouliagmeni! (also a good hotel with reasonable prices for the area!):):)

Hi Mike, I also recommend in Santorini the Aroma Suites. I was just there a two weeks ago and it was amazing. Aroma Suites in located in Fira, its on the caldera and a block from the bus stop. It is walking distance to the old port. The view is amazing. The price is amazing too.

In Athens, I stayed at The Adams, DO NOT stay there. I would recommend the Pheadra Hotel, its in Plaza, great location! Great price! I tried going to the Attalos to use their roof top bar over looking the Acropolis but the front desk wouldn't let me. In my travel book, it said I could. That made me upset. Thats my only negative on Attalos. I wanted to stay there but it was booked. Location is good, right next to Monstraki metro and Pssri but I prefer Phaedra's location.

Oh by the way, Aroma Suites' owner in Santorini, will pick you up from the airport or port for free. That says money and he is very informative and reliable!
