| Sri Lanka | Maldives from Sri Lanka Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 07:54 PM UTC
Dear Tourists
We are planning a trip to Sri Lanka in Jan 09 and want to end it with 5 days in the Maldives. Is it possible to book this when we get to Sri Lanka or should we try to do it in the UK. We don't want to spend more than 5 days in the Maldives if possible due to costs and time constraints. Most holidays in the Uk are for 7 days in the Maldives and they fly straight there rather than stopping off in Colombo. If anyone has any contacts or information I would love to hear from you. Thanks for your time. Mags. |

Hiya Mags,
The Maldives isn’t a cheap destination but the really expensive part of any sort of package deal from Sri Lanka is the flight. Male is less than an hour from Colombo but a flight alone will cost you at least £100 so the best way to do this is to build a Maldives stopover into your ticket when you buy it in the UK, most of the Airlines you are likely to fly with have flights via Male. If you tried to sort out accommodation on arrival (which would need to be done before they let you out of the airport) it could work out very expensive indeed so once you have arranged a stopover the easiest way is then to book the accommodation with a Sri Lankan agent and don’t forget you will need a transfer too. A company called Classic Travel (http://www.classictravelbiz.com/) might be worth checking out, their website offers the Maldives ‘from’ around $350. Most of the bigger Sri Lanka travel agencies will offer something similar so it might be worth looking on the net and emailing all the more reputable ones to see what they can arrange. When you book your flight try to arrive in the morning, if you land in the late afternoon or during the night you could be stuck on Male until the next day because transfers are by seaplane or boat and they don’t happen at night. Regards Mark

Hi Mags,
Yes, you can certainly book your trip to Maldives from Sri Lanka. However since your trip is a long way from now you might just be able to do your research well in advance and get a good idea of deals and packages. Your decision to spend 5 days in the Maldives is good, spending too long might just get you a bit bored unless you into water activities. You may also try this web site www.shadesofmaldives.com and speak to Shafraz, you may mention my name and he might just oblige you with a good deal. There are also, several other sites that you can find on the net selling Maldives. All the best in planning your trip, Cheers, Emile.
