Shuttle is the more economical way, but they're not much less than taxis, especially if your group is 2+.
There is a public bus, but it's complicated because there's no one bus to the strip. You have to transfer. They really want you to take a taxi.
There's a plan to extend the monorail to the airport, but that won't happen for many, many years.

The distance is so short, I would just take a taxi. Unless they've booked special services for our conferences, this is what I do. There are quite a few shuttles and the like to get to hotels ... see Ground Transportation for the official McCarran airport site: http://www.mccarran.com/

With a shuttle you might end up paying about the same or more, and the taxi will make your life much simpler and allow you to enjoy your first exposure to Vegas. It's about mid-20's. You can always contact your hotel and ask what you should pay a taxi, but it's very close.

Like in every other place, just make sure you have all your luggage before getting in the taxi, and that all luggage is placed inside.

We took the Grayline shuttle in February; it was $11.00 round trip per person, so if you're by yourself it's the most economical. The booth to buy shuttle tickets is right outside the door as you pick up your luggage and exit.

I think a one-way trip by taxi is about $25.00, but that depends on traffic and where your hotel is.

It's not very far from the airport- I'd suggest a taxi for price and convenience. I think the taxis have to post their rates- and it is interesting to look around. You could also ask them to stop at a convenience store if you need snacks or drinks for the room.

I have stayed at IP twice. The last time I took a shuttle they were $8 per person but it's been a few years. Last summer we took a taxi to the Flamingo, which is right next door. It was $28, but since there were 5 of us it was cheaper.

Take the Ritz shuttle located outside door #11 at baggage claim. It is $6 shuttle and will take you right to your hotel. I just used it last week.
