My wife and I want to go to ksar Ghilane and stay the night on 22/4/8 - but it seems quite expensive to hire a driver and 4X4 - anyone in the area at around that time who wnats to do this trip and share costs?? Its going to be my 40th birthday -we are fun loving people who like adventure - looking for the same! Let me know

Two friends of mine (two girls) are heading to the south on 20th. They plan to base themselves in Tataouine and try from there to reach Ksar Ghilane and then move to Matmata.
What is the deal you have got, and where would you be based, if ever they would be interested ;)

Hi - thanks for getting back to me. We are travellng overnight to Tozuer on the 20th so we arrive and stay ther on the 21st of April. After that we planned to go on a tour with Isango -the cost was advertised at approx £86 for per person - this included pick up from Tozeur,travel across Chot Jerid to Matmaha then on to Pansea camp (accom included)in Ksar Ghilane, 1 night 22nd (my birthday) there before back to Tozeur via Douz etc. Sounded great until the company then called abck and said that becasue only we had booked the trip so far the price was going to be £140 each... we thoughntt ok- not happy but OIk, then they called back and said in fact it was a lot more and thatey might not even run the trip if noone else booked on it by this Friday - what a terrible service huh. Anyway we were thinging that we may just try and get there ourselves. We know it can be quite expensive to hite thre 4X4 plus driver so thought we might find someone in Douz for example in the samer situation.

So our situation is we have Monady night booked in Tozeur after that we have no bookings anywhere until friday where we have booked to stay on Djerba for the weekend. So we have the rest of the week to sort out our desert adventures. I was kind of hoping to be in Ksar Ghilane for my birthday but its not imperative. Would love to discuss with your friends to see if we could maybe share costs, like I said we are flexible. We wanted to see Tatouine too but were thinking of ending there before Djeba - so maybe we could meet at Douz for example or even matmata - tell your friend to feel free to contact me to discuss possibilities -pete at programmusic at hotmail dot com or my wife Kaz -her email is kaz_27 at hotmail dot com.

WHy don't you try to get in touch with another agent, based elsewhere (e.g: Tunis, but instead of being part of the tour from Tunis, you ll just join them in Tozeur or Douz.???

we are two girls (22 and 28 years old) from Germany that work for a few month in Tunisia and about up for the same route. We want to do Matmata, Tataouine and Ksar Ghilane between the 20th to 23rd coming from Matmata / Gabes as we will take a bus or train from Tunis. It seems that it is closer to take a 4x4 from Tataouine to Ksar Ghilane, but I don't know if you are also up to visiting the Ksours around Tataouine?
We would be happy to share a car if we can arrange a common itinary.

We are travelling in Tunisia from 21st April for 8 days. We plan to visit friends in Douz and Kebili, these are "true" desert people, not tourist traps. We will travel to Djerba on 22nd and spend 2 days in Aghir on the official Gov campsite in one of their rooms. If you wish to meet up let me know.
Following our stop on Djerba we will travel to Douz, Kebili and possibly K. Ghilane. My friends can arrange camel trips, etc. I am English, white, and 48 years old, not out to con anyone just trying to ensure that you have a good time in a lovely country. www.4x4-travel.co.uk (my site)

hi, rent a car...we bargained down to 45 dinnar (23 pounds? - a day based on 5 days rental) on djerba for a fiat seating four. day one went around matmata (found better trog villages and skipped matmata) and on to ksar ghilane - its paved road all the way and unless you want to off road in the sand no need for 4x4...actually it was very disappointing and not worth the long drive (500km djerba-djerba), but done it in a day. fiat took us all around tatouine, which is paved road now, and its an absolutely fabulous circuit - also done in a day (500km). other 3 days went up to tozuer, mountain villages and kairoun, etc. 4x4s were let me know if you need any info.
