| Hanoi | Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum sign meaning Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 04:52 PM UTC
Hi there
Can anyone help me with the translation of the sign at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. It reads "Nuoc cong hoa xa hoi chu nghia viet nam muon nam! Chu tich Ho Chi Minh vi bai song mai trong su nghiep cua chung ta!" Forgot to ask our guide and now it's bugging me! Thanks |

My transaltion version is not going to be the most accuarate one but somehow it may help provide you with the meaning of the slogan. What the slogan means is that "Long Life the Socialist - Republic of VIetnam! President Ho Chi Minh's memory will live forever in our work.
I remember slogans like the one you posted in your query used to be painted on the walls of schools and many posters in parks during 1980s. But it seems to be fading out a bit or disappearing in the youths awareness. Bear in mind that things like this are common in Communist countries. That makes us diffeence LOL. I love it. :=) Cheers.

"Nuoc cong hoa xa hoi chu nghia viet nam muon nam! Chu tich Ho Chi Minh vi [d]ai song mai trong su nghiep cua chung ta!"
I notice a sight error on your quote and made the change, which is marked with [] My version is very similar to Loc's but slightly different: "Long live the Socialist-Republic of Vietnam. The Great President Ho Chi Minh will live forever in our work."
