Kuwait THEY LOST MY LUGGAGE
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 12:41 PM UTC
Help!

I have arrived in Kuwait City without luggage and only have the clothes on my back. I have/had several meetings set up but am wearing jeans and sneakers.

Not Good!

Where can a Westerner safely go to shop (in a mall preferrably) by taxi? I don't want high end, only something to get me through this crisis. Something like a Carrefour.

THANKS!

Can you not just say you flew via T5 at heathrow. That would explain everything and you might even get away with jeans.... ;)

the airline company are duty bound to re-imburse you for essentials-if you can orove you need to be suited & booted for meetings then they should allow you for this also

keep on at them

A westerner can safely shop anywhere - just ask your hotel reception for the nearest shop.

The airline will reimburse you for your expenses and your credit card should also cover it if you used it to buy your tickets. It has happened to me two or three times and it is a nice opportunity to get some new clothes for free ;-). As the previous post mentioned, just ask the hotel clerk to direct you to a man's clothing store.

Hi there
If you want Carrefour in Kuwait - it's in The Avenues Mall just off the 5th Ring Rd. You could also try City Centre Supermarket in Salmiya for cheap clothes. There are cheap clothes in the centre too in the indian run stores off the First Ring Road.

I do agree with Chizz. We dont know exactly which part of Kuwait you stay. If you are in the city, Carrefour in the avenues, Lulu Hypermarket in Shuwaikh and City center will be good (supermarkets-department sotres). Around 1 KD by taxi from the Kuwait City (Sheraton area). They may charge you more for the western. Just bargain your deal. Get the the Indian look taxi drivers, they speak English better. The other good option for the average prices will be CENTERPOINT (some may still call it by its old name, LANDMARK). You will get the complete attires in this store. It has some branches: SHUWAIKH area (nearby the Kuwait city), Salmiya (around 2KD taxi fare from the city), and in Fahaheel area (in front of Al-Kout Mall). The other one will be MAX. It can be found in Shuwaikh (next to LULU, Hawally area, and Salmiya. It is safe in Kuwait generally, they do love the westerners. Open www.kuwait-airport.com.kw and get the number to recheck your baggage. Sometimes you will be lucky to get your baggage back though it will take more days.
Good luck.
