Hi all,

I'm planning to stay in Rothenberg with my boyfriend for 2 nights (May 28, 29), and I was hoping someone could recommend a place for us to stay that is not too expensive. Also, we are backpacking and will arrive by train to Rothenburg-- any suggestions on what location would be best? Thanks for your help!

We stayed at Kruzenhof about a 5 min walk into Rotehburg - family run pension. Fantastic brekfast quiet room even down to chocs on pillow. Romantic little place - definitely recommend. Have fun

Accommodation in Rothenburg is mostly expensive, especially the hotels and if the accommodation is within the walled city or not. Its Ok to stay outside the wall. Expect to pay about 45 euros for a double per night.

I don't know of any Backpacker establishments there.

I have stayed twice at the Gasthaus Uhl. It is a 9-room guest house atop a bakery and restaurant. The staff is very friendly (family-run) and it's centrally located. The tropical decor inside one of the rooms on the top floor is a bit odd, but the price is right (something like 59 euro for a 2-bed room in summer of '06).

I believe there are cheaper accommodations outside the wall, but spend the extra couple of euros for the prime location.

If possible, take the Night Watchman Tour. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions on Rothenburg or things to do there. It is my favorite small town in the world, and I'm going back for the Christmas Market this year.

Goldenen Rose, www.zur-goldenen-rose.de is within the walls and is a good small Hotel in a quieter location, 25 beds and has a very good restaurant. If you need a modern feel to your hotel, this is not for you, as well as many other hotels in Rothenburg for that mater. It is clean and well maintained but some rooms are not modern with toilets, for example. But, still it is my favorite. It gives one a feel of older days. It is not far from the train station too. A better value won't be found I don't think.
