| Las Vegas | Casinos & Hotels In Vegas - Under 21 Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 12:01 AM UTC
So i know that you cannot gamble unless your 21 and over but are you allowed in the casinos? Im 23 butmy girlfriend is only 20, we're travelling the west coast in June and really looking forward to Vegas. Want to experience it fully, see the shows etc. Just wondered what the restrictions on the ages are
Thanks, Paul |

People under 21 can go THROUGH a casino as long as they are on they way to something like a show, restaurant, or hotel room.

She can go anywhere in the casinos, she just cannot gamble. Don't worry about it, the most they will do is ask you to keep walking or move off the casino floor.
Definetly watch a few shows. I've seen almost all the major ones that are playing currently. My favorites have been Le Reve, KA, O, and Phantom of the Opera. Buy the front row seats at Le Reve, you might get a few light water sprays on you, but it's worth it! You are sometimes an arm length away from the performers and it's cheaper! KA would come in second because it's a nice contrast to Le Reve, which is based around water, where KA is not. The Stratosphere is worth going to the top at night. Buy one of the package deals at the Stratosphere that includes a couple rides. Scream and Big Shot are my favorites. Other than that, just explore the strip, there's so much to see. Enjoy!

We had the same problem with my sister 2 years ago, she was not even allowed to stop at the slot machines or look over my shoulder while I gambled ("walk on, walk on") - she was allowed on shows (not the topless ones *gg*) but (!) she was NOT allowed to go into bars/pubs/discos or other locations where they have alcohol. This is very annoying, if you are used to go out evenings ...

You’ll probably be ID’d quite a lot Lamby, both of you. I went last November with a mate and his 21 year old son and he got asked for ID every time we got near a bar. He didn’t get asked much actually in the casinos but maybe that was because he was with us most of the time. A British driving licence will be fine.
You’ll find that in the big hotels the casinos all have attractions or shopping right outside so if you want to gamble a bit while your girlfriend does a bit of sightseeing or shopping it’ll be easy. Have a great trip Cheers Clive

There certainly is more to do than just gamble...have a look at the "things to Do " pages here on VT.
Mid- Strip has a couple of good hotels in the more economical bracket, like Flamingo Hilton or Harrahs or the Imperial. These are in an excellent position and so handy for all the other hotels which you just have to go and see. They have so much to offer other than gambling but being so huge you will probably only fit in 2 or 3 in a day. We stayed in Vegas last year for Independence Day and were disappointed as there were no fireworks on the Strip. The outlying residential areas have them so we booked ahead into the restaurant up the Eiffel Tower and had a great view...altho not that close. Im sure you will love Vegas whatever you do or wherever you go...so have fun.
