| Athens | Limited Amount of Time in Athens. Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 12:02 PM UTC
Hi There,
I will be travelling to Athens in October but only as a bit of a stopover between Paris and Mykonos. I arrive in Athens at 3.30pm and then depart the following day at 12.30pm. I then return to Athens 6 days later at 2.30pm and then depart the following day at 8am. I would like to be able to see at least the Acropolis and get some shopping in. Can anyone suggest a way I can do this as I don't think there will be time to do any tours? It would be great if there were night tours but I am guessing there aren't any. Thanks :) |

Your time is extremely limited. My first thought is that it is rather impossible to visit Acropolis on your arrival as the site closes at 6.00pm. On your departure from Greece you have an advantage of +1 hour, but I don't know if it is enough. What would help for a schedule is to know the places of your arrival and departure (airport or port) and the day of the week.

Athen's Metro System works very well, easy to understand. It's not hard to get around. I'm not familiar with staying in Mykonos but I stayed in Santorini at the end of September. The end of the tourist season was at that time and I think we stayed a few days before they stopped taking accomodations. So, October would not have been a great month to visit Santorini. Make sure you don't encounter the same with going to Mykonos.
I have never been a person that likes to go on tours. I like to see and do things on my own terms, at my own pace. Most everyone in Athens can speak English and many of them even speak German. So, it was very easy for me to be on my own (when my boyfriend was at his conference).
