Not knowing the details of your hotel location or anything, I would simply recommend that you go to your hotel, and deposit your luggage in their storage.
There is a possibility that they will have your room available early, so you might be able to go directly to your room. But if not, you can drop you bags off and rest assured they will be safe while you visit the city. There is no reason you cannot do any of the normal activities that you wanted to do in the morning and early afternoon hours on Saturday.

As Dswede said you can pretty much do anything, are you anticipating being tired from a long flight? If you want to do something that is not exhausting, you might look into doing a river or lake cruise, then you can just sit and relax. The Chicago Architecture Foundation does a nice river cruise if you are into architecture, if architecture isn't your thing then I would recommend one of the lake cruises that leaves from Navy Pier or one of the combined lake/river tours from Wendella or Shoreline.

You can always go directly to your hotel and if they won't let you check into your room (some places will let you check in early if they have rooms available) at least they will let you leave your luggage with them so you can go out and start exploring the city. Where are you staying?

Lake cruises are a good way to view the skyline, but seldom go very far from the shore--some don't even get beyond the breakwater. The Windy and Windy City schooners, however, almost always get further offshore and do most of their traveling under sail. See:
http://www.tallshipwindy.com The river cruises, particularly those run by the Chicago architecture Foundation are much more interesting. See: http:/www.architecture.org/tour_view.aspx?TourID=8 And. on another note entirely, you might want to do much of your city traveling by public transportation. You can get visitor passes from the Chicago Transit Authority at: http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/fares.html#e .
