| Melaka | Where are the nicest cafes/restaurants in Melaka? Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 01:09 PM UTC
Would like to know where the cafes/restaurants my fiancé and I can dine in Melaka; tasting the local food.
Plus, any romantic places in Melaka? We went to the Butterfly Park last year and there were no butterflies. The reason given was that there was renovation work and the butterflies escaped! In fact we saw more crocodiles than butterflies in the same park... So you can bet this time, we are not going to the butterfly park in Ayer Keroh. |

Well, I had tried some near the town centre. You can get some reference in this website, http://www.melaka.net/food_guide.htm . If you are a satay lover, you can also try the "satay celuk", which quite similar to "lok-lok" but with satay sauce.
It's been years after my last visit to all the parks and gardens in Melaka. I always like the walk at Jonker's street and some antique shops. At least there are something to see and the architectual is unique.

Vanakam, I hope I can help you with my humble input.
U like Dim Sum & Fried Yong Tau Foo ? Try "De Ocean" restaurant, its on the ground floor of "De Ocean Hotel", along Jln Laksamana Cheng Ho (diagonally opposite the Tan Kim Hock). Its a good place to have this either for Breakfast or Morning Brunch; if you don't go there by 10.30 a.m., its too late, they run out :) Peranakan food ? OK, try "Bayonya" restaurant, along Jln Banda Hilir, its near the entrance to Equatorial Hotel. They have superb Ayam Buah Keluak, Bendi steam, Itik Tim, Sambal Sotong, & other luvly Peranakan dishes. Excellent food at very reasonable prices, best time to go is for dinner. Indian Banana Leaf "pukul mati" style lunch ? Go to "Selvam's", just down the road from Stadhuys (Red Square), near the roundabout. Wonderful selection of Thosai, Idly, Appam (all for breakfast); for lunch, go for either white or beriyani rice, with divine selection of mutton curry, chicken masala, prawns, fish, etc. Finger-lickin' good, dah !! Western food (steaks, pastas, etc) ? Go to Harper's, along Jln Hang Jebat (Jonker's Walk). They have a good selection of wine & beers/liquor, & a very diverse selection of food to choose from. Portguese seafood ? Go to the Portuguese settlement & any of the stalls there will meet your needs. If you're staying in Banda Hilir area, the cab there is 15/- Ringgit, likewise for the trip back to your hotel. U want a good place for drinks & music ? Go the Bamboo Hut Bistro, ground floor of Aldy Hotel (also in Banda Hilir), very good selection of international food (their dinner buffet is usually succulent), & they've got a good folk singer there who'll entertain you with his selection of evergreens from James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, Billy Joel, Seals & Croft, England Dan & John Ford Cooley, etc. U want more, or is this enough for a start ?

Vanakam, Hien.
Regarding transfers, I get the impression that you live in Vietnam & that you're entering Malaysia via KL. If so, depending on the time you land in KL, I suggest you spend 1 night there & leave for Malacca the next morning after breakfast. I'd recommend either the Dorsett Regency or Royale Bintang, both in KL's Jalan Bukit Bintang area, & rather reasonably priced. If you're little more adventurous, go for a Twin-Sharing or Double Room at a B&B called "the Rainforest B&B". They have their own web-site, or try this link: http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/60642-Rainforest-Bed Malacca is about 2 hours leisurely driving time from KL, & if you leave KL around 9.30 a.m., you should reach Malacca by 12 noon (latest). Will be good to stay in a hotel in Banda Hilir area, that way you'll be within walking distance to most of the good food spots I wrote about earlier. If you have some spare cash, stay at the Equatorial Hotel, if not, stay at the Aldy Hotel, which is in the same vicinity. Aldy is a bit more of a boutique hotel, with smaller rooms, but they give very good service; if your budget is larger, stay at the recently-built Holiday Inn, where everything's brand spanking new. I haven't stayed there yet, but friends & family who have told me its nice. Little pricey (b'cos its new) but nice :) Hope this helps, have a nice trip.

Thanks for your detailed answer, kentut-besar
Yes, i will go to Melaka from KL by bus. I booked in Hotel china Inn cause i wanted to stay near everywhere. But rain-forest is a very nice option. I may try to stay at Golden Triangle for one night probably. We are on a very tight budget so prefer something around 30-40 only , clean bed and bathroom is what i need.
