| Lago di Garda | First timers to Garda and Italy! We would love advice...! Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 11:30 AM UTC
Hi all,
Picking your knowledgeable minds please...I know this post will be posted a million times, but if you could even point me to good posts historically we'd really appreciate it!! My wife, Nic, and I are going to Italy for the first time in June. We're being rather adventurous as we're going to Rome for 3 days, then flying to Treviso from Rome. We've got 9 days of which we're thinking 2 in Venice, then a week by the beautiful Garda!! ("GET ON WITH IT AARON!!") We don't know Garda at all and we'd love advice on people's recommendations for resorts around the lake. To be honest, we want somewhere with evening life, as we're both (just about for me!) in our late 20's. We don't go for discos etc, but we like a nice selection of restaurants, and bars which open a little later than 11pm!! We're going to use the ferries to explore in the day, but by night we want most of the fun realtively close by. I heard Garda town has another town just beside it, which gives good choice at night? Again, I know it's been asked a million times, but we'd really appreciate your help. Thanks, Aaron & Nic |

Hi Aaron and Nic
well, well. As you may see in my Torri del Benaco page, i love the narthern (and narrow, surrounded by high mountains) part of the lake. There, the most lively towns are Malcesine (wonderful!) and Riva. The discoteques place is Desenzano, and lively enough is Bardolino... But in my opinion you will trade little at night for much during the day. But i know it's only an opinion. Anyway, you should find enough pages on the several little or medium sized towns that crown the lake. Take a look at the map i placed in my Torri pages, and thes search pages on evey village marked (Like Torri Malcesine, Limone, Riva, Torbole, Lazise, Sirmione, Salò, etc. etc..)- Hope this helps- Ciao Francesco

I've been to lake Garda three times and for me Bardolino is the perfect resort for nightlife. There are plenty of great restaurants and small bars and a brilliant cocktail bar and garden with entertainment (low key) if cocktails are your thing. Sorry I can't be more specific as to where it is as it was a few years ago since we were last there. Garda itself is a stones throw from Bardolino and the nightlife is ok there too but IMO it doesn't have that special 'buzz' that can be found in Bardolino
I'm sure wherever you end up you'll have a great time. How could you not? You are going to one of the best places in the world!

We've booked a lovely apartment in Bardolino and now that its less than 2 weeks away we're pretty excited! (Tues 3-6 in Rome).
The apartment's on Via Europa Unita at the end, near cross road with Via Gugleimo Marconi! Looks ok on GoogleEarth!!! Aaron & Nic
