Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Porto Saturday or Sunday: Catholic Mass (in Latin / or near Avenida dos Aliados)?
Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 09:07 AM UTC
The Catholic traveller in my group would like to know if any Church in Porto celebrates Masses in Latin?

If not, could you please suggest a church for him to attend mass, preferebly within walking distance of Avenida dos Aliados?

Many thanks.

Hello! The official Porto Tourist Info web page has lots of information about the Churches of Porto - click onto each church, and it will give days and times of Mass (plus nearest metro etc), but they don't indicate if these services are in Latin.

Capela Das Almas,(Chapel of the Souls) is next to Mercado de Bolhao, not far from Ave dos Aliados (Tel 222 5 765)This church is recognised by its exterior being covered in the typical blue and white tiles -azulejos
The Cathedral - Se Catedral has Mass at 0900 and 1100 daily (tel 222 001 729)

Hoping this is of some use.
Best Wishes
Sue.

Hi,

In Portugal we haven’t the tradition of celebrating the Mass in Latin and so it will be hard (I thing) to find a church with that kind of celebration. I couldn’t find anyone in a quick search I’ve made right now.
Good luck,
Bye
Rui
