| Bodrum | Scenic routes / villages around Bodrum Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 08:06 AM UTC
I will be staying for 1 week in Bodrum in July and I wonder where I can take day trips by car, so that I leave behind me the spoilt touristic areas and enjoy the inland scenery and unspoilt villages. Thank you!

Yalikavak, Torba, Guvercinlik and Milas.
Yalikavak is a drop dead gorgeous village not far from Bodrum, we stayed here once, nice restaurants and village centre. Torba is a horseshoe shaped coastal village just off the Bodrum to Milas road, very picturesque. Guvercinlik is the village we stayed at the first couple of times we visited Turkey, this is now a Turkish holiday resort but still (for us at least) hold its original Turkish village charm. Milas is an inland market town, I seem to remember that Tuesday was market day and is definitely worth a visit, this is where the local Turkish people go to do their shopping. I have not mentioned Pamukkale, this can be reached easily by car and is one of my all-time must see destinations, plan for one night out, hotels are plentiful here and you can pay as little as you like. If you go to Pamukkale, I would suggest you do Ephesus in the morning and then drive to Pamukkale. Have a night in Pamukkale town and in the morning spend a few hours in the pools and then have a steady drive home with a couple of stops on the way. (buy some Turkish honey, yum)

That's the kind of information I need, thank you! Two more things:
1.About Pammukale, lonely planet descriptions about loads of tourists and dirty basins discouraged me and I was thinking not to go there... I suppose you don't agree with that... 2.In case I m not renting a car are there organised tours to the villages or to pammukale from Bodrum?

If I remember right, the organised tour does Ephesus in the morning then goes through to Pamukkale in the afternoon, but some come back the same day, that is too long a day in a coach.
See if you can get an over nighter. We never have had any problems with the condition of the pools, beside which, it is still worth seeing.

The Bodrum peninsula is fairly easy to drive round and the best bit is following the roads and seeing where you end up. Mumcular, Camlik and others are great villages. Just take the time to drive around and have a look.
