Hello,
first of all, have you decided the order of your stages already? It looks like you'll have to jump here and there all the time! The places you told are almost on a line from West to East but not in the order you're visiting them, this will only mean that you'll make more kilometers than needed, nothing worse than this, but if it's not too late, you can think about rearranging everything. The western place is Malpensa, going eastwards you'll find Milan, then Como Lake, and Venice is the most eastern place. Apart from this, I think you should avoid arriving in a big city like Venice or Milan by car, but it could be useful to go around in the Como Lake area. So, if you're going to Como Lake from Malpensa you can think about hiring a car, leaving it before to go to Milan. Leaving Malpensa airport is in general quite easy even with public transportation, you can choose a bus and a train, the bus takes you to Milan Central train station (it makes some stops here and there also but I don't remember them) and about the train you can have a look at this website: http://www.malpensaexpress.it/website/malpensa_exp To reach Venice I would use train, from Milano Centrale train station or from other cities in northern Italy if you're going around by car at that moment. That's all I can tell you, I hope you'll find it useful. Regards, Sergio

I'm sorry for the object of my previous posting, I think I made an unwanted copy&paste.

from the time you arrive in Venice, you can and should do everything by public transportation as you cannot have a car in Venice and you don't want one in Milan and the trains will get you between the cities and then out to the airport efficiently. Lake Como can also be done by public transit - Malpensa to como by train with change in Saronna, then around the lake by ferry and hydrofoil. But having a car for Lake Como is a good idea - you can drive up both sides of the lake, visit Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo or the beautiful villas like Melfi near Bellagio, stop south of Cernobbio for silks at Ratti, and even drive up Lugano with beautiful scenery and lovely villages all along the way. Then drive to Venice, like the airport, dump the car, and continue on your way.
