Funchal Which hospital?? from cruise ship!

Hi all, This is a strange but urgent question.... my uncle had a heart attack while on a cruise ship, i have been informed it docks in madeira tomorrow (dont know time) i have searched the internet and found only funchal as port for cruise ships (hope i am right!) but i would like to know what hospital is he likely to be transferred to? All i know it has a cardiac unit!!
Really hope someone can help.. in any way possible even docking times!! any info grateful.

It’s pretty sure to be Funchal, there are 2 hospitals in Funchal, but only Hospital Cruz de Carvalho has an emergency service (tel. 291/70-56-00). Your consulate may already have been informed:

It's most likely Funchal. Keep in contact with the cruise ship personnel to find out what's happening. Docking times are usually in the morning, but you don't say what cruise or ship he's on. All good cruise ships have physicians on board, although you certainly want to see your uncle in a cardiac unit ashore for more specialized treatment. Good luck and best wishes!

If it makes you feel any better, we were in Funchal two years ago and it is not a "back water" location. I am sure they will have the best medical care available.

I agree with James. Madeira is a Portuguese island, so I would guess that most of the physicians and medical personnel have been trained in Europe.
