Travelling on the E87 between Odessa and Izmayil, one have to transit Moldovan territory.
Is this painless in regard of car documentation, insurance, etc travelling in a Ukranian rental car? |

it is a straight shot; all in Ukraine, stop en route to check out Vylkove, the Venice of Eastern Europe. Udachi!

There's neutral zone. I suggest to choose other way not through Palanka but through Akkerman. This way your way will be a bit longer but you'll get rid off boarder control
