Hi jerbelle ...
I have *not* taken any of these tours, but just in case there are no better responses, I found both Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam options from Vegas with the Greyline tours (click on "Show All" at bottom): http://www.grayline.com/Grayline/destinations/us/l It's also possible the concierge at the Imperial could help you book a tour (do not know if they will, but worth asking) - you could them compare which would be the better tour.

Here another one for Hooverdam...
http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/lasvegasnevada/a/hooverdam.htm Scroll down to the line before 'More Resources' There is a link to Viator.com. http://www.sightseeingtourslv.com/bustours.html http://www.vegastours.com/hooverdam.htm Otherwise I recommed driving there, as I did. It is pretty relaxing and you are free to decide yourself, but do not underestimate distances... I wish you much fun! It is both very impressive! Cheers, Christian.

It's much better to drive yourself unless you're absolutely dead-set against driving. Tours push you along and rush you, then stick you in tacky gift shops and bad restaurants where they get a significant kickback. Of course, that's a generalization, but it's certainly true for many of them.
It is possible to get from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon by public transit, specifically on Amtrak. You take a shuttle to Kingman, then the train to Flagstaff, then another shuttle to the park. It takes a long time though and the schedule is rather restrictive. Also, the shuttle doesn't stop at Hoover Dam.

I hear the previous posters about driving - and agree it's usually best, however, there are big open spaces and long distances in between. It gets a little hilly around the dam, and even hillier around the Grand Canyon - then you have to figure out what rim. For a girl traveling alone, I think the tour would be the safest bet, particularly if not used to handle hills after you are tired from driving during the day - and then you have to drive back!
You can always hang out outside the souvenir stores and take more pictures of the area.

I don't think the hilly is a problem at all. I don't think it is difficult driving there. All roads are wide and there are lots of tourists. Grand Canyon is quite a drive that I have to admit. However they have to think about it. If they don't have a drivers license for example, then they need to take the bus.

The cheaper GC tours mean going by coach so you will need a full day. The West Rim is closer but the South Rim is where you get the best views. This company has tours to both for around $150. I’ve used them before and they are quite good. http://www.buylasvegastours.com/
Another site I have booked trips through is http://www.vegas.com/. Have a good trip Clive

hi all,
thanks for the replies, they were helpful :) i can't drive, i have a phobia for thia *lol* i'm from asia and here, our driver sits on the right side of the car and not the left so i'm not sure if i'm able to get used to the driving here and besides, i'ma noob when it comes to directions, i'm afraid of getting lost. also, the long journey really puts me off, i would rather relax in a coach bus where i can sleep or watch movies :) anyone went with http://www.grand-adventures.com before? i heard somre great reviews about them. and what about http://www.grandtourslv.com/srim.html ?
