| Cancún | hotel imperial las perlas & cost of eating and drinking out. Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 04:32 PM UTC
dear sir or madame,
my wife and i are going to cancun for the first time on 27th may for two weeks. we are stopping all inclusive at the imperial las perlas hotel, the first hotel on the hotel zone. the hotel itself was pretty cheap so we are not expecting to much, but would appreciate any information from anyone that knows the hotel, such as what the food is like, the rooms, etc etc. also can anyone tell me if the alchoholic drinks such as corona, and sol are part of the all inclusive as these are brewed in mexico. ?. also i have been told that it is quite expensive to eat and drink out, can anyone put any light on this for me. i understand that the clubs are going to be expensive, but are you local small pub or bar also expensive. mainly for drinking local beers such as sol or corona. i drink these drinks here in the uk when ever i can. i would also appreciate any tips, as we have never been to cancun before. thankyou. steve and niki from england. |

Have not been to that hotel but I can tell you each hotel usually has one house brand beer & is included in all inclusive. Since you are all inclusive I would not eat out unless on a day trip for lunch or If the food at the hotel is that bad then food can be cheap at the local taco stand ( $3 to $6 dollars ) or $50 a meal. Coming from the UK the conversion rate should be almost double ours. SO Cancun prices could seem pretty cheap to you. Clubs are expensive. Do not use your credit card at clubs or anywhere else if you can help it. Hotel & tours out of the hoel should be OK.

Hi, I have never been to Cancun, but we went to small fishing village called Puerto Morelos which is only 15 min drive south of Cancun. We drove (rental car) to Playa de Carmen and Tulum (farther south of Cancun), to Coba (south-west) and to Valladolid and Chichen-itza (west of Cancun).
The restaurant story goes: If you go to Italian restaurant, or French or German or whatever else is owned by European or American ex-pats it will be as expensive as New York City or Rome. However, if you go to small Mexican eatery with few old plastic tables and no fancy, fancy decor it is cheaper, much cheaper. We were eating only in Mexican local places, where by the time you ordered your food you were already a friend with the owner. Most of them speaks enough of English to take your order, and you can also get familiar with the names of dishes you want to try. As for getting any stomach problems, now days those small Mexican places know how to cater for tourists and they don't serve a tap water. Also raw vegetables and fruits are usually not on the menu. Besides that all people WE KNOW who had stomach problems in Mexico were staying in resorts and were not eating outside. See my Puerto Morelos, Coba and Vallodlid pages for prices, favorite dishes, and plenty of photographs from our favorite Mexican eateries to give you more ideas of "how it is". We photographed Mexico with open eyes and a smile. By the way, we had some medications for upset stomach with us (we did not need to use them). We also carry HAND SANITAZER and used it before every meal as we believe that the germs on hands is the easiest way to get one of those "touristy stomach problems". We also carry small package of moist "butt wipes" as in public toilets you will get only one piece of toilet paper, hehhehe. Oh and if you forgot to pack something with you, don't worry, you can get anything you need in MExico, from Klinex tissues to 50" plasma TV.
