Cancún WILL MY ELECTRICAL ITEMS WORK IN CANCUN
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 04:16 PM UTC
please can someone help me,
me and my wife are going to cancun on 27th may, we have never been before, and i have been told that possibly some of my electrical items may not work when we get there, because the voltage supply is united states. 110 volts.i was told that if the items i have, ie, camcorder, camera, ipod, personal dvd player,my wifes hair straightners, have a 110-240 volts supply they will work. the problem is that half of the items do have that supply on the plug, but the other half have only 240 volts written on the plug. we do know that we have to get a plug adapter with flat pins on it for use in the united states, this we have got, will this be enough, or do we need something else in order to make these items work. thankyou for any help. steve and nicola. from england / united kingdom.

Today is April, 11. So I believe you are in Cancun a long time.
Or I believe you will be in Cancun April, 27?

I got it wrong Steve. You're going 27 May and not 27 March.
My answer created any loss to you I wish.

The US converter should be fine for most items but I'm not sure about the 240 Some hotels provide hair dryers.

Since you have the adapter plug you will find any item that says 100-240 VAC will work. Most laptops and cell pnone chargers have that kind of universal power supply. BUT, if it only says 240 VAC, it will not work.

You will find that most electronics now have dual voltage capabilities built in - you should only need a convertor for the electrical socket so you can actually plug the device in. Check on the cord or your devices to see if they indicate each voltage strength.

My wife and I got married in Mexico last May and couldnt complain about anything. The only thing that annoyed my wife was that out of all our electrical appliances, the only one not to work over there were her ghd hair straightners which wouldnt even heat up due to the diff voltage, even with a convertor.(we from uk also) Have a fab holiday. We had such a great time we heading back in July again this year!
