| Dubrovnik | Other Sites to See? Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 02:24 PM UTC
Ok, so I spend 2-4 hours in Dubrovnik (Walled City). The cruise I am on is docking from 07:00 to 19:00. Are there any other interesting places nearby? Other than the walled city in Dubrovnik, is there anything else that is a must see and do in Dubrovnik itself? Sorry if I sound a wee bit ignorant, but I am assuming that the city of Dubrovnik is not just the old town.

I think you may want to spend more than 4 hours in old town though. Just walking around the town itself and on the walls would take that long. Then add in lunch and sitting in a cafe--more hours.
The short trip over to Lokrum was described in previous posts, as was mention of a beach outside the old town. Without transportation it is difficult to do much exploring in that time frame. With that amount in time in one of the most beautiful places in the world, I would just sit tight, but if you want to rent a car, Konalve (sp?) may be interesting.

Apart from the beaches and Lokrum, there really isn't a lot to see outside the old city. You could take a cruise or negotiate a water taxi trip around the city walls and the offshore islands for an hour or two - very pleasant and a nice rest for footsore sightseeing feet after you've explored the town. The old city will occupy you for more than the 2-4 hours you're thinking, especially if you walk the walls. I'd suggest you do that first, both to avoid the crowds and the heat later in the day.
