Prague Prague tours
Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 12:07 PM UTC
Hello,

I normally do not take tours, but I will be in prague for 5-6 days total so I thought it might be a good idea to learn more about the history and surroundings. I am looking into tours in and around Prague. I was thinking of one to go out of the city, possibly to Kutna Hora or Karlovy Vary. And, possibly another walking tour if it's really worth it.

Has anyone ever had any good or bad experiences with a particular tour/ operator? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

I'm not sure about tours, I didn't take any while I was there because I went by car. But you will find the Old City a lot cheaper for dining out than the new part of the city. They still use Krone over there and I would advise getting your Euro's/Dollars/Pounds changed while you are there. The exchange rate in the 'Exchange Shops' was a lot better than the Banks. I got 3900 Krone in the Bank for £100 and 4050 Krone in the Exchange Shop for £100.
Its a lovely city and I hope you have a good time. I didn't really need to take any tours out of the city because there was so much to see and do while I was there.

We are not very big on tours, but we found two in Prague that seemed worth the price and effort. First is the Jewish Quarter tour, mostly for the knowledge of the guides. Second - if you have interest in the Terezin concentration camp, many people advise going by public transit, but for several reasons we found the tour preferable and were pleased with it (full discussion on my Terezin page).

It is not really a tour, but you can go to Troja castle by boat (see our transportation tip). We have enjoyed that.

Go to Kutna Hora by train. Its only a 1 hour journey and costs around 100 korunas return. Its a beautiful town and make sure you visit the bone church (10 min walk from station). You dont need to go on a tour , just go yourself and have a walk round.
