| Grand Cayman | How to get to Hell by bus Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:35 PM UTC
Hello,
Will be visiting Grand Cayman in January 2009 and would like to know how to get to hell by bus. What bus number and route? I'm guessing we would start from the library. Also, it is possible to buy an all day bus ticket or must you pay per ride? Thinking about using the bus service as a cheap means of seeing the area but would like to be able to get off and on whenever I'd like. Thanks for any info, Shara |

The Cayman bus system has only been in existence for about 10 years and kinks are still being worked out. It's definitely cheap, and the fare is $2 U.S. from George Town to the West Bay district, where Hell is (or at least, the Town of...). On paper, it runs every 15 minutes, but keep in mind the unwritten law of "island time." Buses do have some official stops, but most of the time they're simply flagged down and are liable to stop pretty much anywhere without warning or notice. Cayman buses are more like elongated mini-vans, not buses in the urban sense.
I don't believe there are on-off privileges or passes, but I'm happy to stand corrected. Consult these sites for more information; see my Travel Page for a few words about going to Hell and back: http://caymanislands-guide.info/getting.around/index.html http://www.caymanislands.ky/ (official government site)

I appreciate your reply. I also checked out your GC pages; very interesting and informative. My friend & I are traveling as part of (eeeeekk!) cruise but we prefer to get off the beaten path and experience the local culture. We plan to do the obligatory sting ray stuff but after that we hope to not be joined by "1000 of our closest friends". :-)
Thanks again, Shara
