San Francisco British Airways out of SFO
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:18 PM UTC
Hi. I read on British Airways web site yesterday that as of March 31 they were allowing two carryons, i.e. I can take my backpack and purse and my husband can take his backpack and laptop. This was mentioned only at London Heathrow where we are connecting to Nice. Does anyone know if we are allowed two carryons now at SFO where our flight originates? It sure would be nice! LHR won't do us any good if we can't do it in SFO also.

Thanks for any info.

You might also wish to look at the web sites for Virgin America / Virgin Atlantic. They have some pretty competitive fares. Gary

Great idea but we got free tickets with credit card miles. We are stuck with British Airways and trying to figure out how to pack. You can't argue with the price! LOL

I think it applies ONLY to passengers departing from or transferring through those UK airports. Check out

Additional hand baggage information

Which airports allow travellers to carry two pieces of hand baggage?
Passengers departing from or transferring through London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Manchester or Newcastle can carry two pieces of hand baggage.

I don't think your purse counts unless it is really big.

Hi Sally
Last year when we flew from SFO to Heathrow on BA, we were allowed 2 carryons in SFO but we were warned that in London, we would be allowed ONLY one.
If the rules have changed at Heathrow, I am sure it's also OK in SFO.

Don't rely on speculation, this is too important. Call BA and ask!

Thanks. I think we're okay. In a pinch I can cram my purse into my backpack and I think my husband can get the laptop into his backpack too. It's just much easier to carry them separately.

London is, at least, no longer a problem.

I just discovered Air France (our usual carrier) is now allowing cell phone use on flights so now I'm glad we're not using AF. I think air rage is going to happen when people start yelling into cell phones or someone's phone plays Dixie in the middle of the night. Carrying one bag pales beside the thought of that. LOL

Well, that is not something Air France introduced.

Quote from your article bminorca. "With the approval by EU regulators, airlines will be able to launch onboard mobile services later this year, officials said.
. . . Several airlines, including Air France, have already launched a trial of in-flight mobile phone services on some European routes."

Air France was obviously ready and waiting. Others have to put the program in place. Air France is doing this on a trial basis.

If they have to have cell phone use, I wish they could have a private cabin somewhere on the plane where people could go to make their calls and not bother the rest of us. Lufthansa admitted the vast majority of its passengers were not in favor of cell phones on the plane. Planes are noisy enough already!

There is much to be said for a good book! LOL
