skii in G.P.(for begginers) Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:45 PM UTC
Hi. I`ll be in G.P. about end of april. I live in a hot country and never had skiied before. So i`d like having the experience, once i`ll stay a full day there. Could you tell please about the best and cheapest spot(station ?) for begginers( like instructors and rent of clothes...etc)
by the way could you give an idea of the costs for one entire day doing that, in order to plan the expenses(WE ARE TWO PERSONS TRAVELING)
finally, is it cheaper skiing crossing the border in Austria, once i`ll be there on following days?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Oh, you are brave!
Check out here, to get an idea about the prices in GP:
http://www.skischulealpin.de/html/prices.html
They rent the gear but obviously no clothes... and do not answer emails because they get too many...
But I am sure therea are some locals and people who go to this place for skiing, so someone will surely able to give you more detailed info.
Or contact the tourist info:
tourist-info@gapa.de
Phone from inside Germany (08821) 180-700
Here is a list with ski schools:
http://www.garmisch-partenkirchen.de/de/1a31b22c-949e-5c3f-b5e1-9a253e3ebcf4.html
At the moment only Zugspitze is still open for skiing (until 6 May), the other funiculars etc. closed on 6 April.
I hope skiing works out for you! I have not done it for ages ;-)))

Hi Luiz
Skiing during end of April may be difficult. You will need to go to the higher regions of the Alps. Before you set off anywhere, make sure you get the latest snow report! Having said that and while GP is nice and has the Zugspitz skiing area, I like Seefeld in Tirol better. Its not that far from GP (via Mittenwald) and has a wonderful alpine village atmosphere. Skiing (if there is snow) is not that expensive as they have a point system for using the lifts as well as daily and longer tickets. If you just want to try, then buying a few points is best. Seefeld has good ski schools and hire shops as well as good hotels, restaurants and lots of winter activity like tobogganing and snow hiking.
Its an alternative but you need to find snow at that time of the year. The other nice village near GP in Austria is Ehrwald.
Hope this helps
John

And you... don't break your bones.
If you had more time I would have suggested to go to Stubaital (Stubai Valley) in Austria, which you would reach via the Brenner Autobahn (highway) from Garmisch-P. to South Tyrol (Italy). There are many skiing areas - and if there is no snow in lower regions there is always the Stubai glacier as the last resort. But I had the impression your schedule is rather full...
Would be funny to hear about your skiing adventure ;-) Have fun!

Hi Sissi. In fact, when i`m back home i won`t be able(probabily) to report about skii, because of the lack of bones to do it. Any way, i`ll be careful. I`ll try.
Once the other reply(from Winterson) directed me to Austria, i checked some websites about, and more information. I`m going to Insbruck and Salzburg next day. So when we`ll be there we`ll decide about
thank`s for the informations and concern about our health. I`ll survive ...ahah..

Many years ago I went sliing in Austria at St Johann, it is a beautiful village with long easy slopes. However in 1 day I don,t think you will learn to ski and wonder if you could possibly make it longer than 1 day as it would be disappointing to just get on your feet as it were and not have some fun. There are a number of towns near St Johann like Kirchberg (Tirol) and Hopfendorf that also have beginner slopes but it,s true that there may not be any snow by the time you go.

Well, Seefeld is near Innsbruck - but the skiing season is over there, the lifts are closed.
Check here:

and here:

But Stubaital is really close to Innsbruck as well, and has the glacier.
