Hello dear VT friends in Lisbon!
We will be in your beautiful city from April 14`th to 22`nd. Could you give us recommendations about current exhibitions of modern or contemporary art? Where are pubs, clubs with independent/alternative music (punk, reggae)? Any tips for portugese punk-bands to buy vinyl or cd in which record-shops? Thanx in advance... |

I was expecting someone younger to answer your question, but since there was no one, I may help you in what concerns art:
The best museums are: Gulbenkian, maybe the best Portuguese museum: http://www.gulbenkian.pt/main.asp Museu Berardo in CCB (Cultural center of Belem), the newest one: http://www.museuberardo.com/ Museu do Chiado, dedicated to contemporary art, and located in the historic center of Lisbon: http://www.museudochiado-ipmuseus.pt/ There are also some galleries. But, in Lisbon, if you want something different, think about fado. Maybe you don't like it, but you can't ear it anywhere else.

about museums Avelino (solopes) gave the best tips
about punk / reaggae the most "in" places are - Lisboa Bar (Bairro Alto) close to Carmo and Cervejaria Trindade - Lounge (Bairro Alto) - you can go around also in Docas (docs) in Alcāntara. There are several bars / disco with several kinds of music - easy to choose because you can ear from outside - Lotus Bar (Cascais) The best choice for cd's / vinil's in Lisbon area is FNAC (french chain) in Chiado they have a big place and they can help you in the choice (you can ear before buying) Enjoy

Bairro Alto is the most alternative place in Lisboa (or Lisbon, if you prefer).
