| Dublin | Getting to Glencullen/ Johnny Fox's pub from Dublin Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 02:04 PM UTC
Hi,
I just wondered if anyone had any tips as to the best way to get to Glencullen/Johnny Fox's pub from Dublin town centre? Is it too far for a taxi? I've heard there's a bus but it only goes once or twice a day. My friend is getting married in a Church near or opposite that pub, I'll be arriving in the day in my wedding clothes and carrying lots of stuff so am trying to find the most hassle free and reliable route. I was also thinking I might go to Johnny Fox's the night before, although I guess getting home at night must be even harder? Thanks for any advice! |

The only suggestion I can think of is that you get a regular Dublin bus to Stepaside, go into the pub there and get the number of a local taxi service, ring and get them to pick you up there.
I don't want to put a damper on your big day out but I must warn that under no circumstances should you hitch-hike or take a lift from a stranger, unfortunately a number of young women have disappeared around Ireland over several years, all in 'hitching' situations and one of them was last seen alive in Johnnie Fox's. So make sure you have a pre-arranged mode of transport back to the city after the wedding even if it means booking a taxi all the way. Again I'm not saying this to frighten you or to cast any aspersions on Johnnie Fox's, it's a great pub in a beautiful place but it is a remote area and it's better to be forewarned than to end up in a dodgy situation. Could you not hook up with other wedding guests and travel with them? I hope you can work out a good plan and have a great time.

Would agree with what the previous poster has said about being safer to travel in a group if possible.
Another option is to get the Luas to Dundrum (20 minutes from St Stephen's Green and very cheap). There is a taxi rank outside the Dundrum Town Centre - taking a taxi from there will cost a lot less than from the city centre. You will probably get a lift back to the city from another wedding guest or share a taxi. The countryside is lovely in Glencullen - have a great day!
