Kruger National Park is within the independent republic of South Africa. It is one of South Africa's numerous national parks, albeit the biggest.

KNP is a venerable South African institution. To my knowledge, it isn't "independent," as if it were some sort of country with a government, but still one of the crown jewels of the RSA.

On what source do you base your query?

The animals of kruger park gained their independence when Kruger park became one of the trans-frontier parks in Southern africa. the border between Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa inside kruger park was opened and there was unhampered access for the animals between the border parks of the three countries.
