Shanghai What, where & how to do at Shanghai
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 12:37 PM UTC
I'm going for a business trip at Shanghai. I'll stay at Galaxy Hotel at Zhongshan Road form April 12 to 16. After that I will go to Kunming. I would find full day & night free only April 14 (Monday). Would you please suggest how I would pass that day for showing the beauty of Shanghai? I also want to enjoy nightlife of Shanghai. So how & where I could go & pass the time.

I would also find evening time (from 5pm), up to late night, free on April 15 (Tuesday)& 16(Wednesday). So also suggest me to make schedule on those days for evening time.

And also advice me to shop cheaply (not aware for brand product)......leather jacket, casual blazer, shoe. One more thing........I'm also interested to buy an LCD TV (32") and bring it to Dhaka by China Eastern Airlines. Do you think the airlines & china customs will deny bringing it to Dhaka? Could I carry that TV in the cabin luggage or I have to book for that luggage?

I guess, lots of questions & queries I have posted here. But you know visiting any new places would be mess if we couldn't plan for the efficiency.

Thank you for your passion.

Coincidentally I was also at that same hotel (only in the lobby, no further!) yesterday evening.
I suppose the obvious sightseeing locations for you would be the Bund, Yuyuan Gardens & Bazaar, French Concession etc.
Nightlife try Xintiandi (http://www.xintiandi.com), Tongren Lu, Hengshan Lu, Maoming Lu, Fuxing Park etc.
For the evenings, if the weather is good (ie not foggy/misty/raining) then you might want to consider taking a 1-hour cruise on the Whampoa River. The Chinese acrobat performance at Shanghai Circus World is also quite highly recommended.

Thank you Ellyse for your tips.
Will Huaihai Road or Nanjing Road be cheap source for leather jacket, casual blazer, shoes?
And which Indian Restaurants (just rank up to 3 from shortest distance) from below will be short distance from my Galaxy Hotel:

1. Hazara (Bldg 4, Ruijin Guest House, 118 Ruijin Er Lu (between Yong Jia Lu & Fuxing Zhong Lu)
2. Hazara (59 Maoming Nan Lu, Jin Jiang Hotel, Maoming Lu)
3. Tandoor (Jin Jiang Hotel, Food Street, 59 Mao Ming road)
4. Bangra Bar (Golden Bridge Building A103104, 2077 Yan An Xi Lu (near Friendship Store, Hongqiao), Changning District)
5. Bombay Bistro (Shanghai Continental Hotel Gate 3-5,
418 Wu Yi Lu (near Ding Xi Lu)
6. Indian Kitchen (572, Yong Jia Road (between Yue Yang Lu and Ulumuqi Lu), Xuhui District)
7. Karma (1111 Huai Hai Zhong Lu (near Fen Yang Lu)
8. Papadom Curry Restaurant (18 Dong Ping Lu (near Wulumuqi Zhong Lu) Hengshan Lu)
9. Red Chili (1413 Huai Hai Zhong Lu (near Fuxing Zhong Lu)
Huaihai Zhong Lu)
10. Spicy Cafe (1/F, Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Pudong,

Huaihai Lu itself is certainly not really a cheap place to shop as it's mainly malls and designer boutiques. However the smaller streets around it eg Maoming Lu, Shaanxi Nanlu, Changle Lu and Xinle Lu have smaller individual boutiques which might serve your purpose. If you get off at Shaanxi Nanlu metro stop (line 1) you'll be in the right area to start. Sorry, I don't know if they'll be good for men's fashion though!

You might want to try Qipu Lu instead.

The nearest of those Indian restaurants would be Bangra Bar and then Bombay Bistro, then probably Muse Curry. The rest are all closer to where I'm staying. There's Punjabi on Xiangyang Nanlu (junction with Nanchang Lu) and Vedas on Jianguo Lu, which you didn't list... but they aren't near you anyway.

Try looking at the listings on the following URLs:

Do you know about "PURE ECO", a herbal tea for reducing fatness & coleasterol?? One of my colleagues ask me to bring for him the above herbal tea. Will it be available anywhere or some definite places or shops?
