| Yogyakarta | Transport from Borobudur to Solo Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 12:03 PM UTC
We're hoping to stay at the Manohara hotel at Borobudur for a night to checkout the sunrise, then we're planning on going to Solo for the next night. Can anyone tell me what is the best/easiest way to get to Solo? Is transport readily available from Borobudur or do I need to organise a driver before we get there? Thanks in advance.

Borobudur is in the rural country about a one hour drive north of Yogya city. The fastest and easiest way is to hire a driver to take you to Solo directly. I would suggest arranging a reservation for transportation in advance if possible or no latter than your arrival to be sure someone will be available for you.

Borobudur is in Yogjakarta. You can take train (Prambanan Ekspress) from Yogjakarta to Solo (Ticket price about Rp 7.000, less than USD 1). It take about 1 hour.

If you like a really interesting scenic ride from Borobudur to Solo, ask your driver to take the route through the pass between Merbabu and Merapi mountains, via Selo and Boyolali. Will take about an hour longer, but worth your while.
I agree with PL&L that it is best to make a reservation of your car while still in Yogya.
