We will be in Athens with some elderly Americans on a saturday night in October. Do you know a tavern where they have live music and dance? We heard about one in the Plaka and another one in Peraeus but they might be tourist-traps. Did you visit one of these places or do you have any idea where we could go? Thank you very much for your help!

I have been to Plaka and I definitely suggest it. There is no tourist trap. You just choose one of the taverns there and the folkloric dancers will be visiting all taverns one by one. The prices shouldn't differ so much from each other. You will certainly enjoy it.

I am not sure where the previous poster gets his information... I hve been in Athens 7 times, and have not found that to be the case.... of course I have tended to go to small traditional, budget-level restaurants, not the bigger showy ones. Many such restaurants have music (bouzouki, lyra), but not dance shows..
I would advise you to contact your hotel in advance, or the day you arrive and ask their help.
