It's always busy! Allow an hour each time.

There are many on the China side - I don't know about Macau because China is cheaper: half the price. An easy walk across a grassy square at Gong Bei, either above/next to the bus station, or in the pedstrian shopping street. Three-star less than 200RMB.

Hi Tan,
I don't know whether or not you are now confident of crossing the border. Weekends are very crowded but the Immigration Officers work doubly hard and crossing the border does not seem to take long. You may know that across Gongbei border is the Gongbei Plaza which is nearby to Jinye, Zhuhai Fortune and Popoko Hotel. These hotels are located within walking distance. Although it is not more than 3 stars I can say that they are stayable and comfortable. Let me know if you have any more queries. Enjoy.

Hi, Arriving in Hong Kong airport at Friday 11am and want to visit Taicheng Taisan City for three days. Intend to do sightseeing of villages and countryside mainly at a leisurely pace.
Would a trip via Zhuhai by ferry, spend a night there, and then next day to Taicheng. Would this be less stressful in terms of crowding than going by bus/train to Guangzhou and then take a transport to Taicheng. Thanks Joe New Zealand

Looking at the map, via Zhuhai seems your best bet. Otherwise you be going "the wrong way" for more than an hour, which you'd then need to spemd coming back. There are probably buses from Shenzhen too, but that would probably not be easier.
What's in Taicheng to see for three days? A bit further on is Kaiping, famous for its towers. I have a visit page.

Hi Joe,
As your preference is a leisurely pace, I would suggest travelling by ferry. You are right that travelling by bus/train can be more stressful than a ferry.

Hi John,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I intend to tour around the villages of Taicheng where our ancestors came from. The main village is at Hoiyan southeast of Taicheng. The other time will be spent is seeing, as advised, Kaiping and roaming around Taicheng. I saw you comments on transport and although more expensive (RMB350/day?) thought of hiring a taxi for 6 hours to drive through the villages. Mainly as I do not have the geographical knowledge and do not like to spend too much time haggling (I speak basic Cantonese) and getting lost. I may need you advise on the best way to reach Zhuhai from HKIA, expect to clear customs and immigration at 1100am, no particular desire to go to Hongkong and prefer to avoid the crowds at the China checkpoint as arriving on October 3rd which is a holiday. Joe
