| Istanbul | Places to eat in Cihangir Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 01:01 AM UTC
Hi all - I can't wait for my first trip ti Istanbul!
We are renting an apartment in Cihangir very near the tram line. Any recommendations for places to eat would be appreciated. |

You will be close to Karakoy, Eminonu and Taksim. Taksim offers every type of cuisine you can imagine. You can check my restaurant tips. There are also many in Karakoy and Eminonu area. Especially in Cihangir, I can't give a spesific name.

Taksim Square is the hearth of Modern Istanbul. See the map.
http://www.cihangirhotel.com/location.htm The two main streets that end at Taksim are the famous Istiklal Street the Pera and the other is Siraselviler Street. Cihangir is the place around Siraselviler. Siraselviler is the old Greek part of Istanbul. There are still many Turkish citizens of Greek origine living there. The Turkish Greeks are called Rum which means Rome. We say that they are the ancestors of old Roman Empire. The owner of the apartment nust be a Rum. The street of Cihangir begins from Taksim end ends at Tophane. If your apartment is very near to the tram line that means it is very near to the Meclisi Mebusan Avenue. The tram ends a station later. It is the tram of Kabatash(1st Station-Tophane- Karakoy- Galata Bridge- Eminonu- Sultanahmet- a.s.o Have a nice time.

Yes - the apartment is very near to the tram line - just off Cihangir St.
I have 2 maps, 1 shows a tram stop called Findikli and the other does not show that stop. If it is there, that would be the closest stop.

You are very close to Kabatas, but still you can access Taksim within 10 minutes. On Istiklal street you have plenty choices of restaurants.

Sorry for typing mistake: The right route is:
Kabatash(1st Station & end Station)-Findikli-Tophane- Karakoy- Galata Bridge- Eminonu- Sultanahmet- a.s.o When you stand on Cihangir Street facing the seawards your right is Topkapi-Karakoy- Galata Bridge- Eminonu-Sultan Ahmet. Your left is Kabatash. In Kabatash there is a funicular metro which will take you in seconds to Taksim. In Kabatash you can visit the famous Dolmabahce Palace of the Sultans. At the quai of the palace there is a small cafe where you can drink and eat vieving the Bosphorus. Dont forget that.

Sorry me again
Taksim is on a high hill top. It will be bouring to climb the hill. The Istanbul are Hills hard to climb. There is a Turkish saying for Istanbul Hills. "Even a mule exhausts" Your apartment is on sea level. If you try to go Taksim take the Kabatash Funicular metro. From Taksim you can walk hill dawn or take a taxi.
