| Watford | Central hotel near Watford tube station (Metropolitan line) Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 10:10 PM UTC
Looking for a mid price hotel near the centre/ near the Met line for a SINGLE room for 2 nights midweek in July. Not often I book a single room and see that most places seem to charge about 95% of a double!
As a frequent visitor to London and former resident I am already au fait with all of the best hotel chains and reservations web sites. Is there though someone locally who can advise a good location (or someone who has recently stayed in the area) not far from the Tube station, nor the centre, or in the general direction of Bucknalls Lane, Garston, where I will be commuting to by cab for a coupe of mornings? I am not fussy (well - travelling on my own I'm not!) but as it's a course would like somewhere that I will get quiet at night for sleep. Thanks for your thoughts...... |

| REPLIES to CENTRAL HOTEL NEAR WATFORD TUBE STATION (METROPOLITAN LINE) (1 - 2) |

Hi Paul, don’t know if you are aware but Watford Metropolitan Line Station isn’t very convenient for the Town Centre, it’s about 15-20 minutes walk through Cassiobury Park and there’s not a very good bus service. Watford Junction mainline is more central (trains from Euston or the Caledonian Sleeper stops there on the way to Euston).
For hotels you might want to have a look at the Travelodge site as they recently opened a hotel right in the centre of town. Also in the centre is the White House Hotel which is a Best Western property www.whitehousehotel.co.uk . From either station the Park Inn on St Albans road is fairly convenient although I suspect the prices are high and you might already have looked at that. A cheaper option might be the Southern Cross (phone 01923 256033 - post code WD17 4PP) which is nearby and is a decent hotel/bar. There are a couple of pub/B&B options on the St Albans Road and I can find phone numbers for you if you are interested. St. Albans Road is the main road from Watford to Garston so it’s a convenient location for getting to Bucknalls Lane. I live nearby so if you want any more information let me know and I’ll try to help. Cheers Clive

Bucknalls Lane is on the Northern outskirts of Watford and the two closest hotels would be the Noke (Thistle) on the edge of St Albans - you would want a taxi from here - nice hotel I like it
The other hotel would be the Premier Inn Watford North from where you could walk if you were fit - still think you will need a taxi
