| Belize | Which Island? Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 08:19 PM UTC
I am totally confused in what island to chose for 3 days stay. I had my mind on Caulker but just found out that the water there is very shallow. I was told that islands in the south (Tobacco?) have deep water but in a rain zone.
What would you recommend? I want good possibility to swim, but I also want to go diving and deep sea fishing. How are waters/beaches in Ambergis? Placencia? Any other places? What should I choose? |

The Great Blue Hole, located near Ambergris Caye, is one of the top scuba diving sites in the world. And the Belize Barrier Reef near Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker is the second largest coral reef system in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Sorry, I don't know. I didn't swim or dive when I was there. There are quite a few dive shops in Ambergis.

Tobacco Caye is a nice reasonable place to stay. Very low key. There is diving beyond the reef where the water is deep. On the leeward side the water is shallow for a while. You didn't mention when your trip was so maybe you won't have to be concerned about rain. I have a page on Tobacco caye if it helps. Have a great trip.
