| Washington D.C. | Travelling to New York: stop-over in Washington (arrving Dulles, leaving Reagan) Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 05:53 PM UTC
Hi,
I was about to book a flight to New York with a stop-over at Washington, but now I see I arrive from Amsterdam at Dulles and leave Reagan for New York. Is this convenient? How far and in what way will I have to travel between those two airports? Thank you for your quick reply. |

Not convenient at all. The airports are over 50 km apart. With traffic you can expect at least one hour to transfer. Plus the trouble of retrieving your luggage and carrying them to Reagan. Why would you want to do that?

Not convenient but not all that bad either. They're about 30 miles apart and REagan is closer to the city. Here's a link to the airport's site.
http://www.metwashairports.com/dulles/parking_tran There's a shuttle but to the subway too. That might be the cheapest approach. It will take you to the airport as well. Sorry I can't provide more details but I live near Dulles and don't fly from Reagen.

Ok, thank you both. This sounds like a bad idea. I'm glad I caught it in time... I thought I was arriving at Dulles and leaving from Dulles!

Dulles is a really horrible airport and I would avoid it possible. Reagan is a better choice, and right next to all the attractions (not that it matters so much if you are only changing planes).

Dulles is the only arrival option from Amsterdam since Reagan is a National airport, not International. Its really not that bad. Just get a cab, save the hassle of taking bags on a bus and train combo.
