Hi.

Can anyone give me directions from the Lotte hotel to the PNU bar area? I could get the subway there (need clear directions from the subway station, though, as my sense of direction is terrible). Depending on what time the subway closes, I'd probably need to get a taxi back.

Are there any other bar areas or individual expat bars near the Lotte? I'm interested in bars with cheap drink, good music and the opportunity to meet expats and English-speaking locals. I'm not interested in clubs/discos or dance music.

The best thing to do is take Subway #1 to the PNU station. Exit the station through door #3.

There is no specific "bar street", but all the bars are situated in this area. Walk down the small street immediately outside of door #3.

For example, "Soul Trane" is at the end of the street, take a right, then ~2 blocks and left, basement level (under a martini bar called Moe's). Another block behind that is "Basement".

Best to get in the area and just ask around.

I went one night to the PNU area but was unable to find anything (forgot to take the instructions). I did ask around, but nobody knew. Hopped back on the subway and went back to the nice bars I find around Seomyeon.

Or just buddy up with another foreigner who's been in the area any length of time. When you get into the PNU area, local Koreans probably will not know those bars because they will not go to them. Ask foreigners and they will be your best bet.

I was at Soul Trane and Basement about 3 weeks ago, so I know they are there and still kicking.
