We are staying overnight off a cruise ship in October. Is it better to stay in a hotel in Giza or downtown Cairo? I know we are planning to see the light and sound show at the pyramids.....have no idea what time it is. We also want to have a nice dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Nile.

Is Giza on the Nile? I have heard it is better staying in downtown Cairo. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

Distance between Giza and downtown less than 30 min. by car so it's almost the same, but it's better to stay in downtown to be close from everythin' like the the river nile, the museum, old cairo, citedal, the bazar and azhar park for example..

just pyramids and sound and light show will be a little bet far "more than 30 min. by car as i told u

How are you going to get to Giza? It is quite a way from "downtown" Cairo. I would stay in central Cairo but I don't know the logistics about where your ship arrives and so on.

Yes downtown is the most popular area for tourists and there are alot of activities like restaurants and etc...
Downtown is few steps also from Egyptian museum and nile cornich as you asked about nile : ))

I think you are coming with a mediteranean cruise ship docking in either Alexandria or Port Said. Great to have 2 days in Egypt, most cruises only reserve one.

I would overnight in downtown Cairo. The drive to Gizeh is about 30 minutes, as said, but traffic can be horendous in Cairo! Last time it took us over 1,5 hour to get to Gizeh from downtown Cairo leaving us 10 minutes left of the English version of the sound and light. Next shows were Italian and French....

You could have your transport on the first day to Gizeh (Sakarrah, Memphis, Dashour...), have diner in the Piramid area to be followed by the Sound and Light. After that have transport to downtown Cairo, to your Hotel. Spend some time at the Khan el Khalili before going to sleep and reserve the next day for the Museum and/or the Citadel, Coptic Cairo or what ever you want to see.

Cairo down town will be better for u , You can have 4 star hotel by the Nile River so you will enjoy your evening after long travelling .....
