Bontoc is 1 hr to Sagada, Banaue farther. From Manila, Dangwa Tranco (in Dimasalang, Manila) has a route direct to Banaue at 7:30am. Call them at 7312879. However Dangwa has a fleet of old, rickety buses. There's another bus going to Sagada directly from QC (Cable tours, 09185216790). Unfortunately, we tried it and it broke down in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. We ended up retracing the Baguio route. It's more certain and bus routes are more reliable.
Fyi. Your choice :-)

If you take the midnight bus to baguio from manila, you will arrive early morning in baguio. This is just in time for the direct bus trips going to sagada from baguio. Total trip time will be 11 + hrs.
If you take the night trip from manila to banaue, it will be early morning when you arrived in banaue. Then it will still be 2 transfers: Banaue to Bontoc then Bontoc to Sagada. It will be about 12 hrs + depending on waiting time between connection. Distance wise, Bontoc is nearer to Sagada than Banaue. From Banaue you will first pass Bontoc on the way to Sagada. From Baguio, the juction to Sagada is about 10 kms before Bontoc. bong

If i were you i will take the 11pm trip to baguio (e.g. victory liner buses) which will arrive at about 5am. this gives you enough time to clean up and get breakfast in baguio and then catch the 6am trip to sagada (you will arrive in sagada at around noontime). There's really no need to stop at bontoc and waste time waiting for the sagada-bound jeepney to fill up. Lope Bosaing's place is cheap. no hot water though.
Cost of fare might set you back between P600-700/way. read the member pages on sagada. there are a lot of info to be had there.

i suggest you go via baguio as this route gives you more security in terms of transportation. anyway, the estimated time of your arrival in sagada is 12noon whichever route you take either mla-baguio-sagada and mla-banaue-sagada. you can always take the sagada-banaue-mla route when you return to manila and have a lil sightseeing in banaue and then take the 8pm florida bus to manila.
by the way, bontoc is NOT a waste of time. one of the big problems confronting bontoc in terms of tourism is the tourism spots in bontoc are not well promoted as compared to sagada and banaue. if you just take your time to explore bontoc, you will find that its more than just a town you pass by before reaching sagada or banaue.

Hehehe! Darwin don't take offense. All I am saying is that the OP will be wasting time if he/she has to wait for the Sagada-bound jeep to fill up with passengers.

hehehehe........ no offense taken.
i just want to remove the notion of most travelers and tourist that bontoc is just another town that they have to pass inorder to reach whichever destination they want to go.

oh, owen, lest we forget your question. during our trip last Nov to Sagada, we stayed at Traveller's inn, Php500 a room for 2, with common bathrooms and shower rooms for the 3rd floor. amenities were basic, but the place was secured and 'manang' was very friendly :-)

@ darwin.. The Bontoc Museum is the best one to visit.. however, a tourist ones asked, "WHY DID SAGADA TOOK IT ALL" hehehehehe..
oww well, back to the the question.. Bontoc is 45 minutes away and banaue is around 3.2 hours away.. For now, Cable tours is the only Bus from manila to Bontoc.. For Manila to BAnaue, i think, there are around 3 buses i know, Florida, Autobus, and Victory liner... hotels- there is only one.. Churya-a Hotel annex Inns, it depends on your price range, particularities, and others.. hehehehehe.. basically, every thing here in sagada is just reasonable and cheap..

Owen!!! 1. Take the 11 pm Victory Liner bus to Baguio from Cubao(that's one ride) 2. Take the 6am Lizardo bus to Sagada (that's 2nd) Seriously bro, that's the most time-saving way to go if you ask me. Cable tours is iffy option. The buses breakdown a lot and there's no choice but to wait for the driver and conductor to repair the one you're riding since there is no replacement bus at all.
