Do it yourself! Take the ferry accross to Aqaba. Find a taxi driver (haggle hard)and get driven there or take a bus.
Show up in petra, walk to a hotel & arrange a room for the lenght of your stay.
Whilst there I would really recommend to take the time & head for Wadi Rum too.
Amazing desert.
