| Maldives | Spending money Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 05:23 PM UTC
Hi,
My husband and I are going to the maldives in may, For 7 nights, we have spent quite a bit on the hotel and flights so we are on a bit of a budget now. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much money I will need over there? I dont just mean how much cash on me, I also need to know how much money will everything cost (To see how much I need on my credit card). I have seen similar questions, but people have only answered back how much cash I will need on me and that everything else gets charged to your room, but I need to know how much I need on my credit card for the bits charged to my room. Please if you could help Thankyou very much!!! :) |

Are you staying all-inclusive or on another board basis?

That's the key if your plan is all-inclusive or not.
You have to spend $20+/person for a meal, depending on hotels/islands or restaurants. For water sports or activities, prives vary: it costs a few bucks to rent a snorkel gear, or a few hundred dollars for taking scuba diving tour. We've spent appr $1200 extra on Laguna for our 5 day's meal+3 days boat scuba diving+drinks, etc.

Yep - all inclusive or not, that's the question. :o)
Also know that drinks are fairly expensive - even drinking water! One 1.5 litre bottle of drinking water costs over 4 USD on Kuramathi (and it's hot, so you need a lot of water;o) - alcoholic drinks are pretty expensive too. If you're on a budget, I'd make sure to bring everything you think you'll need (suncream, batteries for the camera, snorkelling gear...) as these things tend to be very expensive on the islands (and the selection is also pretty limited). (Snorkelling gear is usually available for rent, but I always prefer to have my own, and buying before you get to the Maldives might well be cheaper than renting.)

We have just upgraded our package to all inclusive. Thanks for all your help. I'll make sure i bring all my sunscreen etc instead of buying it there.
