Hi,
I'm looking to stay in Gozo in the summer and have seen a lovely hotel in Mgarr. I can't work out what the beaches are like around there though, are they sandy? Thanks |

Gozo and Malta aren`t known for their sand(or grass). :-) Plenty of sun, though!

The one sandy beach among so very few that the island has is at Calypso's Cove which is not far from Mgarr. If I were you, I'd stay on the main town of Gozo which is Victoria where there are far more amenities for the visitor and far more interesting. Happy trails.

You will find both Sandy and rocky beaches.
My favorite is "Ramla il-Hamra" or "red sandy Beach" to the North East of the island. I hope your visit will be perfect.

If you're based in Gozo, you can hop over to Malta for a day and swim at Paradise Bay which is a few minutes walk away from the ferry terminal. If you want sandy beaches you're better off staying in Malta but Gozo is better for diving from what I hear.

I would say that in Gozo there are not a lot of sandy beaches, but perhaps there is one of the best sandy beaches in the world: Ramla l-Hamra. I can read from the messages here that not all these people who replied to you know well the Maltese islands. However you can find a lot of information in www.visitmalta.com
If you would like more infos about your stay in Malta and where to go you can contact me on sammutlawrence@hotmail.com bye for now Lawrence
